Sunset Harbour Marina Upgrades Move Forward Next to Maurice Gibb Memorial Park

Construction crews are making steady progress on a major infrastructure overhaul at the Sunset Harbour Marina and Boat Launch, a project city officials say will modernize one of Miami Beach's most heavily used waterfront access points.

The work, staged along the edge of Maurice Gibb Memorial Park, includes upgrades to the boat launch ramps, seawall reinforcement, and improvements to stormwater drainage designed to reduce flooding during king tide season. Crews have fenced off sections of the park closest to the water while heavy equipment moves in materials for the new dock infrastructure.

City officials say the marina improvements are part of a broader push to shore up Miami Beach's aging waterfront facilities against sea-level rise and increased boat traffic. The boat launch, a popular put-in spot for local boaters and fishermen, has seen years of wear that officials say made the upgrades necessary.

Adjacent to the marina site, the Miami Beach Police substation is also undergoing renovation. The compact facility, which serves as a visible law enforcement presence near the park and marina, is being updated with modernized interiors and improved facilities for officers stationed in the area. Police officials say the renovated substation will help maintain a steady patrol presence in the Sunset Harbour neighborhood throughout and after construction.

Residents near Maurice Gibb Memorial Park have reported intermittent noise and limited parking near the site as construction continues, though the park itself remains open for public use outside the fenced work zones.

City officials have not released a firm completion date for either project but say updates will be shared as milestones are reached. Neighbors are encouraged to watch for posted notices near the park and marina entrance for the latest on construction schedules and any temporary closures.
